Fromme-Birney Round Barn
From U.S. 54, 33/4 miles south on 10, then 13/4 miles west on O. On its original site, this grand 1912 barn stands as a lonely vestige out in the country. You can imagine it filled with draft horses as you walk round and round on its dirt floor, looking at the stalls and tack, climbing the stairs to the loft, and hearing the wind whistle through the cracks. Storyboards and photos explain the efficiency of round barns and relate the history of this beautiful structure and the family who owned it. The Fromme-Birney barn, 70 feet wide and 50 feet high, is a rare breed of barns still standing in Kansas. Our hats are off to those who restored it in 1995.
