Clark State Fishing Lake

From Minneola, 4¼ miles south on U.S. 283, 8½ miles east on G, 1 mile north on 15, then 2½ miles east to a fork. One mile on the fork’s north road takes you to the lake; 3½ miles on the south road leads you on an unpaved perimeter route around the canyon and provides a grand view of the picturesque lake below. Porous sandstones, known as mortar beds from the Ogallala Aquifer, create the rimrock. Their light tan color contrasts with the red Permian rock beds. Cottonwood trees, sumac, yucca, and wildflowers vary in color through the seasons and augment this pleasing picture. A federal project, the lake was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934. From the northeast side of the lake, you will connect with the blacktop K-94.
