Cemetery Folk Art

From Cedar, enter the eastbound drive in Hoisington Cemetery, take the first drive north to the end, then east to Post 21. Here you’ll find the first of several folk art gravestones created by local man Phil Webb. Something tugged at his heartstrings several years ago when he noticed graves without headstones. The first marker he created was for Creola Paxton who he learned loved to sew—and those are the exact words he inscribed on her marker along with a cross, a needle, and a spool of thread. You’ll find many more of these irregular concrete blocks with small figures and bright splashes of paint that tell you something about the deceased.
